American Innovation $1 coins in rolls and packaged formats are of UNC quality and were struck at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints. The New Hampshire coin is the first coin struck in 2021.
The American Innovation $1 coin representing New Hampshire honors the invention of the first home video game console by Ralph H. Baer.
In 1966, Ralph Baer began researching how to play games on a television. He and his team developed the Brown Box, the prototype of the first multi-player, multi-game video game system. This paved the way for all subsequent video game systems. Today, Baer is known as the “father of video games.”
The reverse depicts Ralph Baer playing handball within the brown frame on the right side of the coin. On the left side, the words “NEW HAMPSHIRE” and “PLAYER 1” appear in the background. The inscriptions “IN-HOME VIDEO GAME SYSTEM” and “RALPH BAER” surround the coin with text paying tribute to Baer’s Odyssey. Additional inscription: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA The design also symbolizes the distinctive arcade style.
The obverse depicts the Statue of Liberty in profile with the inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “$1”. The obverse also features a stylized mechanism representing industry and innovation.
The year of minting, the mint mark, and the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are inscribed on the edge of the coins.
